Programme 2010: Tower Room 3

Merlyn Peter - Is the modern environmental movement afraid to call itself a religion?
Especially looking at the Judaeo-Christian heritage of Western societies and the modern environmental movement in relation to how both social phenomenona are denominated by a spirituality of the land and the role of individuals in maintaing our landscapes - both actual and abstract.
I am a Masters student in ecotheology which reciprocally feeds into my daily working lifestyle and environmental work. I am a practising permaculturist for which I live and breathe, albeit I consider myself a pioneer and innovator and thus able to take the movement forward to reach a greater number of nations. Although I am having an off year I teach and run related courses on aspects of food growing and landscape design. I am also a competent singer/songwriter who's lyrics reflect the ecletic nature of my philosophy.

Clare Hedin - Living In Your Center - How is it we make the right choices for our Souls Joy and Deeper Purpose?
This will be an experiential journey exploring the complexities involved in knowing who we are. Clare will introduce and examine with participants ways to read our own energy bodies and our emotional languaging to help us become our closest allies in this life journey. Making 'right' choices is the difference between a happy life, and one of feeling both lost and alone. There is an energy field in us waiting to be recognized and it will automatically activate and respond if we build a path to it of no compromise. It is a delicate learning process and one guaranteed to provide a successful, fulfilling relationship to both our own lives and the interconnected web of life and all its possibilities. There will be some exercises to take away from this process, based in sound and insight discoveries.
Clare Hedin, is an international Speaker, Musician and Healer. Her background in self awareness comes from her own training in Light Body, Emotional Body Balancing, Reiki, Singing and Composition. She works with people in a Mentoring capacity and has spent the last 20 years doing talks and performances based on the spiritual significance of Sound and Music. She also has spent the last 15 years researching energy dynamics of human systems as they relate to the Planetary energy systems and the grid of life. She completed her MA in Consciousness Studies at John F Kennedy University, San Francisco, and has been involved with many hospitals, individuals and groups, using sound and compassion to relate to the human suffering born of the mind, experienced in the body.

Ranchor Prime - Hearing the Inner Voice, The Bhagavad Gita with Ranchor Prime
In the heart of each of us flows a song we all know, though hardly hear. This is the Gita, a never-ending conversation between our self and God. It is the essence of Yoga, of union with the divine. In times of crisis and pain this inner dialogue carries us through. We will be surprised what it tells us. Not because it it new, but because it was always there removing our fear and filling us with peace. Ranchor Prime, through sacred images, sanskrit mantras, clear explanations and chanting will beckon you into this inner world.
I write about spirituality and work as a freelance illustrator and designer. My first book, Hinduism and Ecology, written in 1990, arose from my work in Britain and India as an adviser to WWF on religion and conservation. This led to the founding of Friends of Vrindavan, an environmental charity dedicated to conserving the sacred forests of Krishna in India, and to helping to establish ARC, the Alliance of Religions and Conservation. I was born Richard Prime in 1950 and grew up in Sussex, where I roamed the woods and explored the streams (still my favourite pastime). My father was a doctor and my mother a businesswoman. When I was an art student in Chelsea in 1970 I discovered the Bhagavad Gita and met followers of Krishna. I joined the London Radha Krishna Temple and became a disciple of A C Bhaktivedanta Swami, taking the name Ranchor Das. During the 1970s I pioneered a Hare Krishna centre in Manchester, and built and managed a new Radha Krishna temple in the West End of London. In 1987 I began working as a freelance writer and designer. I started Fitzrovia Press in October 2008 to publish my own books and to commission new writing from other authors. The press is dedicated to producing spiritual books for a broad readership. I live near Regents Park in London with my wife Lena. Our son Rupert works in digital advertising and our daughter Anna is studying languages.

David Partouche - for the abolition of slavery, for the abolition of veganism
assisted by Henna Orn
Veganism is mainly seen as a personal choice. In order to abolish animal exploitation, our message should become a political claim, to change our one-by-one conversation strategy and becoming a social movement. I am a french antispeciesist activist, campaigning for the meat abolition, and organizing french events like the Veggie Pride and "Les estivales de la question animale" (an annual open encounter in France for discussion of all issues relative to the animal question).

John Haladay - Greenpeace: who we are, what we do and how to get involved
An informative presentation about Greenpeace - our history, what we campaign on and why, our campaign methods and how people can help. Our speakers do not usually give campaign/issue specific talks but will be able to give a campaign overview plus more general information about the organisation. Our most recent campaign is Go Beyond Oil, a push to end dangerous and destructive deepwater drilling. All our speakers have been actively involved with Greenpeace for several years, they often also talk about their personal experiences and involvement as well. There will be plenty of time for questions afterwards.
John Haladay has been a Greenpeace member for a number of years. He is also a board member of Friends of the Earth. John is the coordinator of the Greenpeace Active Supporters Group in Canterbury and has been active in our most recent campaigns incliding the Heathrow 3rd Runway, Neste, and BP tar sands.
